The Outdoor Adventure Group was founded in Blackpool as part of the youth services department in 1992 to provide assistance to Youth Leaders and adventurous activities for young people. This has developed over time to become the group that it is today and a registered charity, providing activities and events for all. The group is not limited to the Blackpool area but now covers the whole of the Fylde coast, responding to the needs of the wider community.
During the months of April to October the Club holds ‘Club Nights’ on Friday nights at the Fleetwood Boating Lake. These run from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, daylight permitting. On the first Wednesday of every month during term time the Club also holds ‘Pool Nights’ in Blackpool where members may practice skills such as capsizing and rescues within the safety of the swimming pool.
Throughout the year the Club organises various activities such as trips to the Lakes, down rivers or out on the sea; the most well known of which being Seaquest. Seaquest is held every September. It is a race from Fleetwood to Shard Bridge and back. This is intended for the more experienced paddlers at the Club. For those less experienced but still wanting to take part there is the Seatour race which is considerably shorter.
All the equipment that you will require in order to participate in any club organised activity or Club Night can be provided by the Club, such as:
• kayaks/canoes
• paddles
• buoyancy aids
• helmets
• spray decks
Of course, you can bring and use your own equipment if you wish. But, even though all of the OAG’s equipment is numbered and marked, try not to get your own equipment mixed up with the OAG’s!
