Websites and the DDA

If we are responsible for the instigation, design or production of a website we now have responsibilities with respect to the compliance of that website to the requirements of the "Disability Discrimination Act (1999)". Section 19 of the act grants to the disabled person under part (3)(b) "access to and use of means of communication" and part (3)(c)"access to and use of information services.

The Code of Practice that guides the section of the act as far as websites are concerned is the Royal National Institute of the Blind document which was published on the 27th May 2002.

If our website makes it unreasonably difficult or impossible to access services or information and we can not show that the reason is justified the disabled person can initiate a claim against the Outdoor Adventure Group.

The Outdoor Adventure Group encourages both able bodied and disabled members and will ensure that our website, perhaps the first point of contact, provides for all.
